  • $50-75K

Job Summary

We seek a motivated, highly curious Qualitative Researcher who is highly responsive, detail-oriented, and people-centered. This role will report to and work closely alongside Encolor Managing Consultant Rachel Dortin on projects involving community engagement, secondary research, and qualitative research. Projects typically include facilitating listening sessions and focus groups related to energy programs. Research may be used in program design, program evaluation, reporting, benchmarking, establishing partnerships and identifying key themes. You may be a good fit if you enjoy learning on the job, challenging yourself and those around you by asking “why,” and navigating complex conversations around potentially sensitive topics with compassion. This role requires someone who is comfortable engaging with people from whom they differ. The ideal candidate will enjoy work that looks different every day, has the ability to work independently as well as with a team, and who enjoys figuring out how to do something for the first time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct secondary research and perform analysis of the outputs

  • Contribute to literature reviews, memos, reports, and presentations for clients or other external audiences

  • Develop interview guides and surveys with support from manager

  • Support interviews with a range of clients and stakeholders including community members, utilities, government agencies, community-based organizations, and community-action agencies

  • Analyze data from interviews and listening sessions to identify key themes

  • Support and eventually lead in-person community engagement efforts

  • Provide project progress updates to internal management, clients, and other appropriate staff

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience engaging with groups or communities from whom you differ

  • Effective communication skills, especially written

  • Must be located in Michigan within an hour’s commute to Detroit

  • Must be able to travel and the ability to travel independently

  • Ability to look at multiple inputs and identify trends

  • Environmental and physical factors include: transporting materials up to 10 pounds, limited weather exposure during travel; ability to exchange information verbally during listening sessions; ability to detect, maneuver and traverse in unfamiliar settings.

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Preference given to multilingual candidates

  • Must have reliable internet
